Freya, a female great white shark (Carcharodon carcharias), cruises by with her pectoral fins pointed wide, in a manner that reminds me of the wings of a plane. The left side of her lower jaw appears to have an injury of some kind, possibly the result of fishing gear. Though white sharks are federally protected in Mexican waters, they could potentially fall victim to incidental by-catch. Fortunately, Freya managed to survive whatever it was that caused the injury to her jaw.
