The perfect shark pose

Cal Ripfin (aka Shredder) is my favorite individual white shark that I've ever had the privilege to share the water with. He was probably the most photographed shark at Guadalupe prior to his disappearance after the 2011 shark season there. Due to his inquisitive nature, when he was around your camera was almost guaranteed to get a workout with plenty of close-up opportunities.

I first saw Cal/Shredder on my very first trip to Guadalupe and saw him on every subsequent trip through 2011. The lack of his presence at the island after the 2011 season was definitely noticeable. Part of me still hopes that he changed his behavior after reaching a certain size/age, and that he's still out there roaming the ocean.
